DESASS: A software tool for designing, simulating and optimising WWTPs

چکیده
This paper presents a very useful software tool to design, simulate and optimise wastewater treatment plants. The program is called DESASS (DEsign and Simulation of Activated Sludge Systems) and has been developed by CALAGUA research group. The mathematical model implemented is the Biological Nutrient Removal Model No.1 (BNRM1) which allows simulating the most important physical, chemical and biological processes taking place in treatment plants. DESASS calculates the performance under steady or transient state of whole treatment schemes including primary settlers, volatile fatty acid generation systems by primary sludge fermentation, activated sludge systems for biological organic matter and nutrient removal, chemical phosphorus precipitation, secondary settlers, gravity thickeners and sludge digesters (aerobic and anaerobic). Biological conversions occurring in settlers and thickeners (primary sludge fermentation, denitrification) are also taken into account, i.e. they are considered as reactive elements. DESASS also includes pH calculation coupled to biological processes in all the elements, so pH effect on biological processes can be directly simulated. Furthermore, the effect of sidestreams on nutrient removal efficiency can be estimated because the performance of the whole plant can be simulated. 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملDesign of Broaching Tool Using Finite Element Method for Achieving the Lowest Residual Tensile Stress in Machining of Ti6Al4V Alloy
The aim of this study, is to use finite element simulation to achieve the optimal geometry of a broaching tool that creates the lowest tensile stress at the machined surface of the Ti6Al4V alloy. It plays a major role in reducing production costs and improves the surface integrity of the machined parts. The type and amount of residual stress determined by the thermal and mechanical loads transm...
متن کاملSoftware Creation: Towards Automatic Software Design By Simulating Human Designers
This paper describes the outline, the approach and current status of the Software Creation project. The main idea is to follow the design steps of human designers by extracting and reusing the design process knowledge in a hierarchically organized work process. The presently implemented system consists of a SDL CASE tool and an expert system for applying the design process knowledge. This syste...
متن کاملMetLab: An In Silico Experimental Design, Simulation and Analysis Tool for Viral Metagenomics Studies
Metagenomics, the sequence characterization of all genomes within a sample, is widely used as a virus discovery tool as well as a tool to study viral diversity of animals. Metagenomics can be considered to have three main steps; sample collection and preparation, sequencing and finally bioinformatics. Bioinformatic analysis of metagenomic datasets is in itself a complex process, involving few s...
متن کاملSimulating the Heat Treatment Process of the Shell Liner of Cr-Mo Steel
The aim of the present research is to simulate the heat treatment process of the autogenous grinding (AG) shell liner of Cr-Mo steel in different quenching media (still air, air blowing, oil and water) using ABAQUS software, in order to calculate the cooling curves. In this regard, the microstructure and hardness for each arbitrary point within the mill liner's bulk could be predicted based on ...
